The DOWN CODEX® scheme was developed to manage and reduce risk in our down supply chains, to ensure that both animal welfare and quality were put at the heart of each and every one of our down products.

Our aim is to have the most comprehensive and most transparent auditing system of any outdoor brand, anywhere in the world.

Since 2009 we have been committed to ensuring that:

The down we use does not come from birds which have been live plucked or live harvested

The down we use does not come from birds which have been force-fed

The down we use should be from birds which have raised in good conditions and to high standards of animal welfare

The down we use should be a by-product of the meat industry and come from birds which have been humanely slaughtered.

These principle rules and commitments have been met by visiting farms, slaughterhouses, processors and factories, a process that began back in 2010. Working closely with the IDFL, an internationally renowned down-testing house, we were one of the first brands in the world to go beyond accepting written guarantees from suppliers and introduce a system of on-the-ground audits.

Since this date we have conducted audits in 6 different countries, across two continents, from Ukraine and Russia to Germany, China and Taiwan.

We also remain committed to transparency. We are the only brand to make both our audit results and independent quality reports publicly available online.

The work we have done since 2009 has been instrumental in helping to form a wider understanding of the issues and challenges which exist when sourcing down as a raw material.

Our reputation as a driving force in this field has been supported by invitations to present our findings and research to other outdoor brands at a meeting of the European Outdoor Group in 2012, through an invitation to chair an inter-brand Down Task Force Working Group within the EOG from 2012 to 2013 and numerous direct exchanges with other outdoor brands. We continue to liaise with other brands and organisations including the Textile Exchange, Four Paws and the European Outdoor Group.
